One card short of a deck

...and one block short of a quilt. Before I started, I calculated whether a jelly roll would make this quilt, and it would, no problem. But then I had to leave out 4 strips for lack of contrast, and now I'm half a block short. (There are 12 blocks in the quilt.) I got to this point (7 blocks) in putting them on the design wall when I started to wonder.
Fortunately, the LQS has some of these fabrics on bolts -- I hope some of the lighter ones! -- so I should be able to finish the quilt. I may even be able to switch out some of the lower contrast ones if I can find the right fabrics.

Do you love your stash?
DD#1 is a knitter, and she sent me a link to a very funny post by the Yarn Harlot (don't you just love that blog name?). She's talking about yarn, but fabric can cause the same reaction. Check out Hey Beautiful, that is your name isn't it?

And I leave you with a photo of another simple donation blanket I made a week or two ago. It's the Fringed Fleece pattern from Project Linus. If you don't have much time but want to make a donation blanket, it's a terrific pattern.

Yep, I'm working on that house quilt that I started on a few weeks ago, and I have no idea how many blocks I was making. I really like how you are putting the quilt together, though. It's a wonder what can be done with strips. Love the blankie that you made, great colors.

I remember reading that you left out four strips - duh, it didn't dawn on me that would make you come up short. So glad you have access to ready substitutions! Love the way it is looking!!

I really like all these bright colors, it makes it even "twistier" if there is such a word! Glad you could find the fabric you need.

This one is on my list and I know now that I want lots of bright colors rather than the mainly blue I was thinking of. Thanks for the inspritation!

I love the way this looks. You did a great job with the contrasts. When you look at the smaller version it looks like some solids but I see that it is all small prints. The dark strips really set the colors off. Great job.

you're definitely going for the brights, there! I love all those colors. I read Yarn Harlot all the time, and that was a great post she did about her beautiful yarn.

That is going to be a fabulous quilt!!! Love, love, love the energy in it!
The Yarn Harlot is fabulous - if you ever get the chance to hear her speak in person, go!! Even though I no longer knit, I always read her blog!

c'mon, go wild and use new, but compatible fabric. make it unpredictable.

I've only ever done two kits and one of them was very stressful because I was afraid of ending up short. I didn't but it turned me off kits. Jelly rolls would be the same I suppose. This one will be easy to add to because of the nice bright colors.

I absolutely love the top. Makes me want to rush right over to my stash and make one just like it. Thanks for sharing. Very inspiring.

Even if the fabrics you find are not exactly the same, it will be all the more interesting because of it, I'm sure.

Thanks for the link to the Yarn Harlot. What a good laugh for the day!

You could put a plain block in or a square in a square or anything really - it's such a quirky quilt, it would look intentional :-)

Great job on the quilt so far - brilliant, cheerful colours! Bummer that you are coming up short - hope your LQS can supply the necessary for you to finish :)
