Strings and a great finish

Even infinite variety can get boring. No matter how scrappy a string quilt, eventually I want something a little different. So last night I decided to try rainbow strings at our Project Linus worknight. In my headbar you can see that I once tried rectangular ones; this time we used our traditional Heartstrings squares and made each row a different color. Not quite done, but I love how it's turning out.

Remember Tonya's Fungly challenge? We made fungly blocks at another worknight, and I joined them with red and aqua. Just got it back from Joe the Quilter today. (Don't be ridiculous, of course it's not Joe Cunningham -- it's our local Joe the Quilter!)
Check out the closeup of the quilting.
Joe, whose wife Bunny is a fabulous quilter, just got a quilting frame and started quilting himself. Isn't this an amazing job? Thank you, Joe!

I love the look of your rainbow string blocks layed out that way. Stunning!

I'm doing some scrappy string blocks for a swap right now, and not really liking them -- too mushy with all that stuff jumbled together. However, I can see that doing monochromatic string blocks would be an excellent way to clear out the scrap bins and make something I like at the same time! Thanks for the inspiration...

LOVE the rainbow strings...the grey/black center strings make it very sophisticated. The funglies are great too...I still love that idea.

love your rainbows - you've got great color combinations in there, not too matchy matchy. That fungly came out sooo cute. I love the red and aqua - that really pulled it all together.

I love the way you've put the colours together. If it was me I don't think I'd be able to give this one away. It's wonderful.

Thanks for the compliment, Cheri, but I have seen Otto's quilt and the "Cheri" letters and the fungly quilt, as well as others, in person. You are a fabulous quilter, Cheri! Joe is having a lot of fun with his new hobby. I told him that he has become addicted to quilting. He says, "No, I've just become a little obsessive". Right, that's it. Bunny

What beautiful colours the string blocks are! They look so effective with the black sashing.

The rainbow blocks are wonderful! Do you mind if I follow along and make one for Camp Rainbow (a camp for critically ill children.) We've made other string quilts for them but never thought of doing this...so clever!

Well, it was the rainbow stips that brought me to your blog in the first place........I do so love that quilt and plan to make one of my own "someday." I really like this one too.

Your name that you did for Tonya is wonderful.....you have the knack of the liberated thing for sure. I am still have a need for a little structure but hope to let it loose someday and just do it!

What a wonderful "rainbow" gift to charity. Saw your name on Tonya's blog and had to visit. I too used her tutorial to add letters to my latest kids quilt. Fabrics for wonky border and letters are fun. Lucky you to have Joe the Quilter. Love the choice of spirals.
